More women are being recruited into the workforce. This is a wonderful development. But it is not enough to give someone a job, it is required that an employer provides a comfortable working environment for their employees. Over the years, working conditions are usually more difficult for women as their unique features are not considered. […]

The peace treaty her father brokered between Roene and the six territories had been broken. Tiara shrugged as her mother informed her of the happenings since she got back from Lagos. I guess they decided to speed-dial their plans. She thought. She continued to sip her coffee without a care. “I know you hate being […]
Today, years later, I still believe in and encourage sexual purity. It is scriptural, saves you lots of heartaches, and helps you protect yourself from diseases, but I don’t subscribe to the purity culture our predecessors practiced. It objectifies women and places her worth on the presence or absence of a membrane on her body. That is not godly because God sees us as his children despite our many flaws and imperfections. Therefore, I strongly advocate for us to teach boys and girls to abstain from sex until marriage. I advocate for girls to stop being blamed for boys’ mistakes. Rather let’s instruct and teach both genders sexual purity. Not because virginity makes you a superior human (and in most cultures, females) but because it is a commandment in the Bible and honours God.
In some parts of the world, I have heard that schools ask you to pick who should be called in case of emergency. But even when parents choose fathers, the schools will call mothers by default. This shows that these institutions herald inequality when they shouldn’t.
Granted, bigger funding makes advocacy a lot easier and gives you a wider sphere of influence. And every advocate’s dream is to reach the ends of the world with their message of equality, equity, and fairness. But managing your expectations, making sacrifices, and staying consistent with the cause are key ingredients to a successful life of advocacy. This is the main part of advocacy that the world doesn’t see – the process, the dry spell, the long wait. It is something to be aware of and maximize. If you are in that season currently, don’t just wait it out: work it out, build a track record, and all the good things and impact you dream of will come.
You can be consistent by deciding what you want to do and staying true to it. It could be a project, a course, or a goal you would like to meet. Like we always say, “choosing” is the easy part. The first few weeks you start, it seems pretty easy because you are excited to try something new. But you must decide that after the butterflies fly away, you will still do what you have chosen to do. There are times you will fall but don’t stay there. Get back up and keep going.
First, I want to call the world’s attention to the boychild. I put it this way because I cannot teach boys how to be boys, I am a woman after all. But I can help them in ways where I know I can make an impact and then involve men and women who specialize in specific areas and can help in various aspects of the boys’ lives. I like working with experts just as much as I love practical solutions.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) can be one of the best experiences for any fresh graduate. In recent years many have argued that the scheme’s significance has been defeated, and thus, the program should be discarded. Some also believe that the scheme is useless and the experience gathered during the NYSC serving year is […]
